Watch Out for Cellular Roaming Costs in the UK
Every year thousands of students and young adults make a trek thorough the UK. These young people are often known as backpackers, since that is what they do. Fill up a backpack with everything they will need for a few weeks to a few months and head out. They stay in thrifty youth hostels througout the UK and travel primarily by foot or bus.
The main goal of backpackers is to save money during their trip. Many are surprised to find out that the UK has some of the highest roaming charges in the world. Though three years ago caps were made on the amount of money that could be charged for roaming, currently most providers still charge up to .43 USD per minute or around 38 Euro cents. This is close to or at the maximum cap that was set three years ago.
The government has criticised mobile phone companies for their continously high prices. Lawmakers are encouraging mobile phone companies to lower their prices.
